Kodak EasyShare Z1085 IS Review

Review Summary
Reader Score: 6.50 (out of 10)
Review (Summary): "The Kodak EasyShare Z1085 IS ($249) is a fairly compact camera with a 10 Megapixel CCD, 5X optical zoom lens with image stabilization, 2.5" LCD display, and a high definition movie mode. And, like all Kodak cameras, it's very easy to use. ...

... All things considered, the EasyShare Z1085 is just an average camera. The best thing it has going for it is its value: a 5X zoom lens, image stabilization, and an HD movie mode, all for under $250. Unfortunately, it needs work in a lot of areas, which is why I think your money is better spent on another camera...."

Review (Summary): "... The Z1085 is a 10.0-megapixel compact camera featuring a 5x zoom optically stabilized lens, a 2.5-inch 230k LCD monitor and manual exposure options, and is currently available direct from Kodak's website for £149.99, although it is so new that few other shops are offering it yet. There are surprisingly few cameras that match this specification. ...

The Z1085's overall performance is unfortunately rather disappointing. It starts up quickly enough in under two and a half seconds, and shuts down again in approximately three seconds, but it is the shot-to-shot cycle time that is the major problem. ..."

Review (Summary): "... Being a 'Z' series, you can expect some 'zoom' from the Z1085 - a 5x optical zoom in this case, offering a 35-175mm (35mm equivalent) range. A little disappointing to not have pushed a wider lower end, as 35mm (widest provided) is such a common standard in many compacts. In practice, the zoom is good for the most part, albeit a little slow to catch up and focus on the screen. ...

... In the case of the Z1085 you get a decent, useable compact that does exactly what it says on the box - it even throws a bit of fun into the works, so a highly recommended compact all in all...."
